A Busy Spring for the Grounds Team

Updated: Jul 25

Spring is in full swing and the Grounds Team has been hard at work transforming our beautiful park and gardens. Since our last update in March, we’ve tackled a lot: from clearing brambles and overgrowth in the western approach to the old Herb Garden to sprucing up the ha-ha near the western wall. The Arboretum has seen some strategic rhododendron removal and the Stable Block courtyard is now clear and ready for its next chapter.

We’ve also been busy with some exciting new projects. The North Terrace is getting a makeover with the Lady Cawdor Garden project, featuring stunning concentric ring beds planted with yew hedging. Grass cutting has begun and will keep the park looking tidy for the next five months. Plus, we’ve started creating a circular walk east of the former deer park, linking up with existing footpaths and added new waymarker posts to help visitors navigate.

Volunteers and students from Coleg Sir Gâr and the Police Cadets have been a huge help, assisting with clearing bracken and brambles to restore areas to rough pasture. We’ve also set up a nursery area in the former Herb Garden and a composting space on the old Tennis Court.

Looking ahead, we’ll be planting more yew hedges, setting up a watering station for the North Terrace and continuing with weekly grass cutting. More bramble clearance, tree felling and temporary roof repairs in the Stable Block are also on the agenda.

Thanks to everyone’s hard work, the park is shaping up beautifully: come and see it for yourself!
