The Monterey Pine at Gelli Aur Country Park is truly a magnificent specimen, of jaw-dropping quality. This magnificent tree, known scientifically as Pinus radiata, is one of the highlights of the arboretum.

Why is it special?

Size & Stature: The Monterey Pine at Gelli Aur is a multi-stemmed giant, reaching impressive heights and spreading its branches wide, creating a stunning canopy. 

Species Info: Native to the coastal regions of California, this species thrives in the rich, damp valley of Gelli Aur, showcasing its adaptability and resilience. 

Historical Significance: Planted in the 1860s by the head gardener William Hill, this tree is part of a collection that includes other exotic species like Giant Redwood and Fern-leaved Beech.
